So I missed a trick BIG time not remembering to photograph my Valentines make-up this year, but, I’m sure the look I used will be repeated!
But for today any UK readers already know what day it is, but for the sake of any American/Australian/etc followers; us Brits celebrate our love for our Mum’s in March – today!!
Apparently, the reason we celebrate on the 4th weekend of Lent is because yonks ago this was the allocated weekend domestic workers (living away) were allowed to go home and see their families.
Enough with the facts though, and on with the cosmetics. I wanted to create a bright, cheery, spring-time look for my family and I’s outing for a Mother’s Day meal and here it is!
I started with my eyes and applied Urban Decay’s Eyeshadow Primer Potion before anything else – since getting a free sample of this with my Naked 1 palette it really opened up my eyes (pun unitended!) to how much difference an eyeshadow primer can make. (Separate review coming soon.)
For those who are already fan’s of the Naked 1 Palette I used: ‘Half Baked’, a shimmery gold colour, all over my lid, ‘Naked’, a neutral light brown, on my crease, and another neutral but darker brown, ‘Buck’, on my eyelids. I used ‘Virgin’ for my brow bones.
So, eyeshadow down, I then picked up my new Bobbi Brown Longwear Gel Liner (in ‘Black Ink’ of course!)
I am finding this much easier, darker and longer-wearing than my previously used L’Oreal Paris Gel liner, which I reviewed here. I’ve even found creating a flick is much easier too! However, I couldn’t afford the Bobbi Brown brush so I’m still using the L’Oreal gel liner brush at the moment! Cheat hacks!
I loaded up my lashes Dior’s Iconic Overcurl Mascara which I stupidly haven’t reviewed yet, alongside my Shu Uemura eyelash curler, which quickly became a staple in my make-up routine ever since I ordered and received it! All separate reviews to come though, I promise.
Eye’s done, base next (I do things the other way round in case I make smudges with the eyes!)
Smashbox Photo Finish Hydrating Under Eye Primer was applied (under my eyes obs.), then my Diorskin Star Foundation (in 010) and Maybelline FIT Concealer to any blemishes and around my eye area.
I brushed some of my new Bobbi Brown Bronzing Powder in a 3 shape along brows, around cheeks, then jaw. I’ve always been a bit scared of bronzer because the colours can appear unattractively darker on my pale skin, but, this bronzer in ‘Golden Light’ is perfect!
For both my blush and lips I used the thebalm Cosmetics‘s Staniac I got in my Birchbox for February! I wore it in my video post and can’t get enough of it at the moment. The colour is called ‘Beauty Queen’ and (officially) it’s a lip and cheek tint that’s red on first appearance, but with strong hot pink undertones. I love it!
A tip with applying a stain to the lips; it can be hard to get even at first, try your best then apply a lip balm, or vaseline, when you’re finished. Most lip stains come with these anyway. The balm helps to even up the colour and moisturises your lips, especially as lip stains can commonly dry them out.
And that’s it! I’m ready to stuff my face for our country pub Mother’s Day meal which I will be reviewing on my Kent blog in the next few days (letsseemoreofkent.wordpress.com)
In the mean time… Happy Mother’s Day everyone!
